Fakarava, Tuamotu Islands Atoll, French Polynesia

Traditional Polynesian hospitality greets us as we arrive in this picturesque place. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this atoll is really a sanctuary of crystal clear water protecting a coral reef. An atoll is a ring-shaped group of islands that form a lagoon. We had a beautiful, short visit on this island, appreciating their culture and purchasing their handicrafts, swimming in the gorgeous clear lagoon and enjoying their beers crafted in nearby Tahiti.

Stringing fresh flower leis.

Supporting local handicrafters, helping the local economy and leaving some American dollars here.

A cooling swim in fantastic clear waters with our fellow shipmates.

Jerry and our new friend from Canada said the water is sublime!

A cold refreshing glass of Hinano Tahiti to top off a fun visit to Fakarava.
