Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

The name Vietnam was burned into our memories when we were in our teens. The Vietnam Nam war was part of our growing up — trying to understand why we were involved and how to avoid being sent to fight in this foreign land. Jerry, like all American men his age clearly remembers his draft number and how close he came to being drafted.

Today, the people here are friendly to Americans, pleasant and industrious. The scene is otherworldly, eerie and dreamlike due to 95% humidity and clouds yielding to drizzle. We’re toured Ha long bay, with 1,959 small islands and a massive limestone cave, all part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Boats called junks ferry tourists in and around these picturesque islands providing another photographers feast!
