Sailing toward Wellington, NZ

Napier, a scenic coastal city on New Zealand’s north island is known for the recovery of a deadly 1931 earthquake. Following that devastation, the city of Nappier and nearby Hastings rebuilt homes and commercial buildings in the art deco style which was popular at the time. The place has a Great Gatsby ambiance during the Napier’s Art Deco Festival when the locals dress in period costumes, stroll about or picnic on the grass. The Royal New Zealand Navy Band entertained the families and couples along the clean waterfront promenade lined with gleaming vintage cars. The special holiday attracts visitors not just from cruise ships, but throughout the country.

Another memorable experience from our trip around the North Island of New Zealand — we’re falling in love with this country!
