Wellington, New Zealand

How appropriate … I was drawn to this statue of Katherine Mansfield in Wellington, called Woman of Words. Made of stainless steel and unveiled in 2013, it honors the internationally acclaimed author and is embellished with words from her short stories and poems. One of her well-known titles is Like a Dill Pickle — I must read it someday! The statue is lit up from within at night. Really cool!

Our visit to Wellington included a cable car ride. The little red cable car clanks up the slope from Lawton Quay to Kelburn. Built in 1902, it is the essential tourist experience. The views of the harbor and the city from the top are beautiful on this fine sunny day.

A flowering gum also caught my eye.
