Paris can wait
Arrived in Paris on Sunday and Charles De Gaulle airport was much nicer and easier with new electronic passenger systems, where London’s Heathrow which was a confusing mess. I’m guessing that Paris is getting ready for the Olympics next year as well as the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
La Ferme Saint Simeon is a heavenly venue, epitome of French County chic, charming with lovely service and fabulous cuisine — a delightful landing spot for our introduction to Normandy and the town of Honfleur, the home of Monet and other Impressionist artists. The mist that gathers over the Seine creates a mystical atmosphere and we understand why Monet was so motivated to paint here, as many of his subjects came from his time here. Rain, as we expected, didn’t dampen our spirit and we adore the town, the scenes and especially this lovely hotel. Honfleur is historic as well as a charming harbor, untouched by WWII. Only one bomb fell here and didn’t explode! The Nazi’s didn’t bother Honfleur despite the proximity to the Seine and more prominent strategic Normandy locales. Honfleur is known for delicious specialties of apples — hard apple cider, Calvados and a divine apple Tart, dairy, seafood, especially mussels and mouth-watering chocolates caramels and of course, croissants and pastries.
This blog is a work in progress and I’m certainly learning, experimenting and fumbling along. There will be photos, I’ve taken plenty, but at this juncture the technical challenges of sharing the photos are proving a bit daunting. Stay tuned and hopefully you will see photos to accompany my words! Thanks for your patience.
